Maxi Cab Luggage Capacity: How Many Bags Fit in a 7, 9 or 13 Seater?
By SG Maxi Limo ·

Maxi cab luggage capacity is the one detail that decides whether your airport pickup goes smoothly or ends with two suitcases on someone's lap. A vehicle that seats seven people does not carry seven people and seven large bags, so the right booking depends on your group size and your bag count together. This guide sets out what each vehicle in our fleet actually holds, with a decision table you can use before you book.
Why seats and luggage space compete
In most maxi cabs and minibuses, the rear row of seats and the luggage area share the same space. When every seat is in use, the room behind the last row is limited. When fewer passengers travel, seats can be folded or left empty and the space goes to suitcases instead. That is why every vehicle has two published figures: one for passengers without luggage and one for passengers with large luggage.
For this guide, "large luggage" means a full-size check-in suitcase of the kind you would hand over at the airline counter. Cabin bags, backpacks and handbags are easier to fit, but they still take up room, so it is worth counting them honestly when you tell us what you are bringing.

Maxi cab luggage capacity by vehicle
These are the capacities we publish for each vehicle. They are the figures we plan around when we assign a car to your booking.
| Vehicle | Passengers without luggage | Passengers with large luggage | One-way transfer (SGD) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 7 Seater MaxiCab | 6 | 4 pax with 4 large bags | $60 |
| 9 Seater MaxiCab | 8 | 7 pax with 7 large bags | $65 |
| 13 Seater Minibus | 12 | 9 pax with 9 large bags | $70 |
| Toyota Alphard / Vellfire | 5 | 4 pax with 4 large bags | $80 departure, $85 arrival |
For the full list of hourly and transfer rates, see our maxicab price list for Singapore. If you are new to this type of vehicle, a maxi cab is simply a larger taxi-style van that carries more people and more bags than a standard car.
How many luggage in a maxi cab? The 7 seater explained
When people ask about maxi cab luggage capacity, they usually mean the 7 seater. The 7 Seater MaxiCab is the most common choice for small families and colleagues travelling together. It comfortably takes 6 passengers when nobody has big suitcases, which suits a dinner out, a trip to Sentosa or a short hop across town.
With luggage, the figure drops to 4 passengers and 4 large bags. That is a typical family of four flying out of Changi with one suitcase each. If the same family has two suitcases each, or a pram and a golf bag on top, the 7 seater becomes tight and the 9 seater is the safer booking.
You can read more about this vehicle on our 7 seater maxi cab service page.
7 seater vs 9 seater maxi cab: which one do you need?
The difference between the two is not just two extra seats. The 9 Seater MaxiCab carries 8 passengers without luggage, or 7 passengers with 7 large bags. In practice that means it can do a full airport run for a group the 7 seater cannot handle.
Choose the 7 seater when
- You are 4 people or fewer with one large suitcase each.
- You are up to 6 people with only small bags or no luggage at all.
- You want the lowest transfer fare in the fleet (SGD $60).
Choose the 9 seater when
- You are 5 to 7 people, each with a large suitcase.
- You are 4 people with more than one large suitcase each.
- You are carrying bulky items such as a pram, golf bags or sports equipment.
- You are up to 8 people with light bags.
The fare gap for a one-way transfer is SGD $5 ($60 against $65). For most groups who are close to the limit of the 7 seater, that small difference is worth paying to avoid a cramped ride or a second vehicle.
Maxicab for 6 pax with luggage
This is one of the most frequent questions we get, usually from families or friends flying in together. Six passengers with six large suitcases is beyond the 7 seater's luggage figure, which is 4 passengers with 4 large bags. The right vehicle is the 9 seater maxi cab, which takes up to 7 passengers with 7 large bags.
If your six people are travelling with more than one large suitcase each, tell us when you book. Depending on the total, a 13 Seater Minibus may be the more comfortable option, because it carries 9 passengers with 9 large bags and leaves extra room for oversized items.
Decision table: group size and bag count
Use this table as a quick starting point for matching maxi cab luggage capacity to your trip. Count everyone travelling, including children, and count each full-size suitcase as one large bag.
| Group size | Large bags | Suggested vehicle |
|---|---|---|
| 1 to 4 | Up to 4 | 7 Seater MaxiCab, or Alphard / Vellfire for extra comfort |
| 1 to 4 | 5 to 7 | 9 Seater MaxiCab |
| 5 to 6 | None or small bags only | 7 Seater MaxiCab |
| 5 to 7 | Up to 7 | 9 Seater MaxiCab |
| 8 | None or small bags only | 9 Seater MaxiCab |
| 8 to 9 | Up to 9 | 13 Seater Minibus |
| 10 to 12 | None or small bags only | 13 Seater Minibus |
| 10 or more | One each | 23-seater mini-coach, 45-seater coach, or two vehicles |
If your group sits on the border between two rows, pick the larger vehicle. Squeezing bags into foot wells is uncomfortable on a 30-minute ride from Changi and can slow down loading at the kerb, where waiting time is limited.
Tips for groups with lots of luggage
Give us an honest bag count
The most useful thing you can do is tell us the number of large suitcases, cabin bags and any unusual items when you book. We use those numbers to assign the vehicle, so an accurate count means the right car turns up.
Mention bulky or odd-shaped items
Prams, car seats, golf bags, surfboards, bicycles in boxes and musical instruments all take more room than their weight suggests. Let us know in advance so we can plan the space or suggest a bigger vehicle.
Consider splitting large groups
For groups above 12, or groups of 9 or more who each have a large suitcase, two vehicles or a mini-coach is often the practical answer. Our 23-seater mini-coach and 45-seater coach are quoted on request.
Plan the airport run early
Airport transfers are where luggage matters most. Our guide to booking a maxicab to Changi Airport covers terminals, pickup points and timing. We monitor flights for arrival pickups, so a delayed landing does not leave your group stranded with nowhere to put their bags.
Cruise passengers
Passengers heading to or from Marina Bay Cruise Centre or HarbourFront tend to travel with more luggage than a short city break. Apply the same rules: count every large bag and size up if you are close to the limit.
Book Your Ride
Once you know your group size and bag count, choosing the right vehicle takes a minute. All our fares are flat and quoted upfront with no surge pricing, and our uniformed chauffeurs will help load your luggage. Midnight, peak or extra-stop surcharges and ERP may apply, so ask for the exact quote if your trip is late at night or has several stops. Book your maxicab online, or send your passenger and luggage details on WhatsApp to +65 8043 2447 and we will confirm the best vehicle for your group.
